Solanum is a large genus of flowering plants. Although most are poisonous to humans, the Solanum genus also include three very important vegetables:

  • Tomato, Solanum lycopersicum (sometimes classed as Lycopersicon lycopersicum)
  • Potato, Solanum tuberosum
  • Eggplant, Solanum melongena
