Red Savina pepper is a a cultivar of habañero chili of species Capsicum chinense Jacquin. It has been selectively bred to produce hotter, larger and heavier chili pepper. Red Savina pepper has a reading of 380,000-580,000 SHU (Scoville Heat Unit), and held the title as the hottest chili in the world from 1994-2006, until it was beaten by Bhut Jolokia pepper in 2007.
