Pequin or piquin is a hot chili pepper, a variety of species Capsicum annuum. It is also known as Bird Pepper, and is commonly used as a spice.

Pequin plant has a compact growing habit , can reach a height of 0.3-0.6 m, bearing bright green, ovate leaves and small fruits that seldom exceed 2 cm long. The fruits starts out green, ripening to a bright red at maturity. Pequin peppers are very hot, measuring 30,000-60,000 SHU (Scoville Heat Unit), 7-8 times hotter than jalapeño. The chili peppers are described to have citrus-like, smoky and nutty flavor.

Pequin peppers are commonly used in pickling, salsas, sauces, soups, and vinegars.
