Kohleria is a genus of flowering plants in the family Gesneriaceae, comprising about 19 species. It is a genus of erect perennial, generally tropical herbs or subshrubs with scaly rhizomes, velvety stems and foliage. In summer, Kohleria species produce brightly colored tubular flowers with spots or markings in contrasting colors. A few species of Kohleria are widespread, variable, weedy, and tend to hybridize in the wild.
Kohleria thrives in sun or partial shade, moist but well-drained soil. Water the plants sparingly in winter, over-watering will cause the rhizomes to rot. Propagation is by seeds, stem-cuttings or division of the rhizomes.
