Cereals and Grains are grasses of the families Poaceae and Gramineae, cultivated for their edible fruit seeds - the endocarp, germ and bran. Cereals and grains are staple crops, cultivated in large scale and provide more food energy than any other type of crop.
In their natural (whole grain) form, cereals and grains are packed with vitamins, minerals, carohydrates, fats, oils and protein. However, when refined by removing the bran and germ, the remaining endocarp is mostly carbohydrate and lacks the majority of the other nutrients.
