Anthemis

Anthemis is a genus of flowering plants comprising about 100 species. They are aromatic herbs from the Asteraceae family and are closely related to Chamaemelum. Like the Chamaemelum genus, the Anthemis are known by the common name Chamomile. Some species of Anthemis are also called Dog-fennel or Mayweed. However, the name Mayweed is not correctly applied since Mayweed refers to the Matricaria genus. Anthemis are native to the Mediterranean region and southwest Asia east to Iran. A few species have become naturalized in England/United Kingdom.

The flowers of Anthemis are long lasting, making them indispensable in the flower garden. The flowers are daisy-like and are attractive to beneficial insects. Anthemis tinctoria has golden marguerite. They are clump forming perennial with golden-yellow, daisy-like flowers. The cultivar Anthemis Beauty of Grallach has golden-yellow flowers while Grallagh Gold has large golden-yellow flowers and dark green leaves. Both cultivars grow to about 60cm (24in) high.
